I cigni sono diventati ormai una presenza consueta e familiare per chi vive sulle sponde di un lago. La loro bellezza regale, il bianco delle loro piume si sposano magnificamente con i mutevoli e sempre cangianti colori del paesaggio gardesano. Non di rado, queste enigmatiche creature, si spostano dalle acque fino a spingersi nell’abitato, regalandoci momenti stranianti e divertenti ad un tempo. Qualche anno fa, in una mattina d’inverno, mi trovavo a passare sotto i portici deserti. Mi colpì la presenza di un elegante cameriere intento a scacciare un enorme cigno con una scopa di saggina. Quell’immagine mi è parsa immediatamente interessante nei suoi risvolti simbolici. Una sorta di messaggio forte, lanciato da una mano sconosciuta affinché io lo raccogliessi. Quell’immagine mi è rimasta nella mente per anni e, qualche tempo dopo, mi ha dato lo spunto per questo dipinto.

Swans have now become a regular and familiar presence for those who live on the shores of a lake. Their regal beauty and the whiteness of their feathers blend beautifully with the ever-changing colors of the Lake Garda landscape. Not infrequently, these enigmatic creatures, move from the waters into the built-up area, giving us moments that are alienating and amusing at the same time. A few years ago, on a winter morning, I found myself passing under the deserted arcades. I was struck by the presence of an elegant waiter intent on chasing away a huge swan with a sorghum broom. That image immediately struck me as interesting in its symbolic implications. A kind of strong message, thrown by an unknown hand for me to pick up. That image lingered in my mind for years and, later, gave me the inspiration for this painting.
